《洛陽伽藍記》是一部集佛教典故、文學筆觸、與朝代歷史， 以及地理人文於一身的千古名著，為北魏人楊衒之所撰，成書於東魏孝靜帝時(西元547年)。 正因其獨特近似近代紀錄片的史觀，使得《洛陽伽藍記》與《水經注》、《齊民要術》等合稱北魏百 年來三大奇書 之一。《煙花易冷》所描述的正是一千五百多年前 楊衒之筆下那個盛極繁華後傾塌頹圮的千年古都洛陽城中，一名皇家將領與其所傾慕之女子間的愛情故事。該名將領因緣邂逅女子後，倆人一見鍾情並且私定終身， 此時將領卻被朝庭徵調至邊境征戰，在連年的兵荒馬亂中，帝都洛陽已淪廢墟，殘破不堪，最後女子苦守將領不遇後，落髮為尼，待將領歷經風霜歸來尋至女子所出 家的伽藍古寺，但卻人事已非，塵緣已盡。就在雨夜的古寺中，倆人相望無語，感嘆著世間的繁榮就如同璀璨的煙花般易逝！
The Record of the Buddhist Monasteries of Luoyang is a chronicle consists of theology of Buddhism, literature and history of various dynasties. This was written by Yang Xuan Zhi in year 547. “Grandeur Disappears Fast” recites the grandiose city of Luoyang existed about 1500 years ago. In this city of Luoyang, this was a love story between an imperial general and a girl he loved. It was a love at first sight and they secretly made a pact to marry no one but each other. However, just then, the general received orders to fight at the borders. In the subsequent years of warring, the capital of Luoyang was reduced to rumbles, destroyed. After years of waiting without seeing the general returned, the girl entered a nunnery. The general then, against all odds, managed to return and found the nunnery the girl was in. Yet, all had changed and their affinity had ended. In this rainy night at the ancient temple, the two exchanged unspoken gazes, sighing how the grandiose of this world vanished as easily as fireworks.
